FatToFlatGuy- FITNESS: It might kill me

Day one: They seem to have accepted me as one of their own. They haven't once looked at me with that considering look of how much protein I might be worth. They have even allowed me the use of the smaller weights and old treadmill in the corner, judging by the thin layer of dust this was no big sacrifice. I still feel uneasy among their grunts and weights. I have yet to hear them say more than, "Spot me?". They haven't yet welcomed me into this ritual of standing gloomily over them watching as they lift things, but the day may yet come....

Like many of you, I have experienced that first day at the gym looking around wondering, "Am I doing this right? Is this the right thing to be doing?". Occasionally wishing for some help and advice, but then worrying they may just see you as out of shape. Many people stop going to the gym over this feeling and the sense that you aren't making progress.

What you have found is the beginning of my story going from the fat guy to the flat guy; you can just call me the FatToFlatGuy. Keep in mind as you read and follow me, losing fat and becoming healthy isn't an overnight thing. I wish it were, though. Sure would make my life easier. Losing fat takes time and dedication.

I won't be doing this using gimmick diets that "work for everyone" but don't. This transformation for me will be a lot of work, and I plan to let you see every step of it. I will be changing the way I eat and think about meals. I will be spending time working out, both home workouts and gym workouts.

I realize how hard and scary it is to go to the gym; feel free to ask me for advice and pointers. I am a certified personal trainer getting my degree in Kinesiology (that just means I study the muscles and nerves of the body). Follow me as I pursue this path find the humor in the funny moments and know you're not alone in wanting to change.
